San Antonio Zoo announces extended daily hours for Spring Break

With extended hours and new attractions, the San Antonio Zoo said it expects Spring Break to be one of the most active times of the year.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s never too early to start making plans for Spring Break!

The San Antonio Zoo is extending its daily hours from March 6 through March 22, giving families more time to explore the zoo during one of its busiest seasons, according to zoo officials.

The zoo said one of the biggest draws this year is Congo Falls, a two-acre habitat that brings gorillas back to the San Antonio Zoo for the first time in more than 35 years. Zoo officials said the space was designed to support modern standards in animal care while allowing guests to observe the gorillas in a setting built to encourage climbing, roaming and social interaction. Access to Congo Falls is included with regular admission and is free for zoo members.

Visitors can also check out Pollinators, an interactive exhibit featuring 12 oversized sculptures that guests can climb and explore. The attraction, located in the zoo’s Go Wild area, runs from Feb. 28 through April 26 and focuses on the role species such as bees, butterflies, bats, hummingbirds and even the chocolate midge play in supporting ecosystems and food supplies, according to the zoo. The exhibit is included with zoo admission and free for members.

With extended hours, new attractions and more than 700 species on display, the San Antonio Zoo said it expects Spring Break to be one of the most active times of the year.
