SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Zoo is stepping up to help after the deadly Fourth of July floods that devastated the Texas Hill Country.
The zoo said it has deployed its Disaster Response, Rescue and Recovery Team—a special response unit that has helped during disasters like Hurricane Harvey.
SA Zoo officials say for now, crews will mostly focus on helping animals displaced by the flooding.
“Usually we respond to help other zoological facilities after natural disasters,” said Tim Morrow, president and CEO of San Antonio Zoo. “This deployment is personal to and for Texans.”
Zoo officials said they are standing by for clearance to get into some of the hardest hit areas in the Hill Country.
