SAN ANTONIO — If chocolates and roses aren’t your thing this Valentine’s Day, the San Antonio Zoo has a delightfully petty alternative that involves naming a cockroach after your ex, and feeding it to an animal.
The zoo’s wildly popular Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser is back and bigger than ever, giving adults 18 and older the chance to symbolically name a cockroach, rodent, or even a veggie after an ex, before it’s served up as a snack for one of the zoo’s animals on Valentine’s Day.
For a $10 donation, you can name a cockroach. A $25 donation gets you a rodent, and veggies are also available for $5. The fundraiser is all in good fun, but the money raised supports wildlife conservation efforts at the zoo.
Donors will also receive a downloadable Valentine’s Day card and a special Valentine’s Day video featuring one of the zoo’s popular residents. Fans can watch the feedings happen live on Valentine’s Day by following the zoo on social media @SanAntonioZoo.
Zoo officials say it’s the “ultimate way to ex-terminate your past” while helping animals thrive.
Whether you’re single, taken, or just holding a grudge, the zoo says this fundraiser is a win for everyone… especially the animals.
Donations are open now, and organizers hope to make this year’s Cry Me a Cockroach the biggest one yet.
