San Antonio Zoo reveals first look at new gorilla habitat Congo Falls

San Antonio Zoo unveils Congo Falls, a new gorilla habitat, offering 360-degree views and unique guest experiences.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Zoo is bringing back gorillas for the first time in 30 years and the zoo is offering a first look at the new habitat where they will live.

Congo Falls is the name of the new home for gorillas, which will also include an educational center, a 30-foot waterfall, a pool for water play and a 70-foot gorilla tower.

The unique habitat is designed to give a 360-degree view of the gorillas. It also includes overhead walkways for both guests and gorillas. The zoo will soon be home to eight western lowland gorillas, a bachelor troop of four male gorillas and a family group of one silverback and three females.

“Congo Falls is more than a habitat, it’s a symbol of our commitment to animal wellbeing, incredible guest experiences, and being world leaders in innovative zoological habitat design,” said Tim Morrow, President and CEO of San Antonio Zoo. ” We are excited for the guests that visit us from San Antonio, South Texas and around the world to once again be able to view and learn more about this incredible species at San Antonio Zoo.”

The zoo is also offering some special merch to go along with the opening of Congo Falls including a special popcorn bucket and souvenir drink cup. They will also be offering a Congo Falls yard sign for a $25 online donation, the zoo says.

Congo Falls is expected to be open later this year, but an exact opening date has not been announced yet.
