A one-year-old giraffe named Jasiri has arrived at the San Antonio Zoo and is now settling into her new home.
SAN ANTONIO — There’s a new face towering over the savanna at the San Antonio Zoo.
Jasiri, a one-year-old female giraffe, has officially joined the zoo’s herd in the Naylor Savanna habitat.
Her name means “courageous” in Swahili — a fitting description, according to zoo officials, who say she’s already showing curiosity, confidence and a love for exploring her new surroundings.
Jasiri arrived from the Tulsa Zoo and is now living alongside giraffes Waffles, Brayden and Kicheko.
Her arrival is part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, which helps protect and sustain threatened species through conservation breeding programs.
Zoo leaders say animals like Jasiri play an important role in connecting the community to wildlife and inspiring conservation efforts.
For now, guests can see her inside the giraffe barn as she continues to adjust, with plans for her to join the full herd on the savanna in the coming weeks.
Visitors can also support conservation efforts through experiences like an overnight stay at Spekboom Lodge, located within the habitat.
