A TikTok trend fuels enthusiasm for Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, helping eligible children get Christmas presents.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonians are really leaning into the holiday spirit as a new TikTok trend shines a spotlight on the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
The goal of the Angel Tree program is to make sure all eligible children will have a gift under the tree on Christmas morning. Organizers said about 6,000 local children qualified for this year’s program.
According to the Salvation Army, it’s easy to take part in the program: simply visit the Angel Trees located in San Antonio malls, participating Walmart and Sam’s Club locations, then select a tear sheet and shop for items on the child’s wish list.
Presents purchased as part of the Angel Tree program can be donated at the customer service counter at participating Walmart locations.
Thanks to a growing TikTok trend that shows content creators purchasing items for eligible Angel Tree recipients, there are currently no angels online to adopt in San Antonio. Organizers said there are only a few Angel Tree recipients left at actual stores and malls.
If you get on the app, you can search “angel tree shopping” and find hundreds of videos by content creators that show them buying presents for the Angel Tree program. Many of theses videos have been shared thousands of times and viewed over a million times.
The deadline to adopt is Dec. 12. In addition to the children a limited number of seniors in need are also available for adoption on each Angel Tree.
Salvation Army officials also said residents can help by volunteering or hosting a toy drive. For more information, CLICK HERE.
