San Antonio’s Barrios Family hosts dine-to-donate event benefiting foster youth programs

Portion of sales from Los Barrios and La Hacienda restaurants on Sept. 18 will support SJRC Texas programs for foster youth and families.

SAN ANTONIO — One of San Antonio’s most iconic restaurant families is serving up more than Tex-Mex this week.

On Thursday, Sept. 18, the Barrios family, founders of the beloved Los Barrios and La Hacienda de Los Barrios restaurants, is inviting the community to dine out in support of local foster youth. Ten percent of all food sales from both restaurants that day will be donated to support SJRC Texas, a nonprofit serving children and families in the state’s child welfare system.

“Anything we can do to support this community, the better,” said Louis Barrios, president and CEO of Los Barrios Enterprises. “The question we all ask ourselves is: Are we loved? When you give to organizations like this, you send the message to these foster youth that someone cares for them, that somebody loves them, and that somebody wants to help them in their time of need.”

Proceeds from the one-day event will benefit SJRC’s programs, including “Prep for Adult Living,” which supports teens aging out of foster care, and the “18 to 21-Year-Old Extended Foster Program,” which helps young adults transition into independent living.

SJRC also works to recruit and license new foster families and offers a variety of resources to support children in the state’s care.

“The more we pour into the community, the better it is for all of us,” Barrios said. “You can do lunch or dinner, and 10% of those sales go to support SJRC Texas. Come help us help them.”

The Barrios family is widely known for its northern Mexican-style cuisine, a nod to their roots near Monterrey. La Hacienda, located off Loop 1604 and Redland Road, is known for its expansive outdoor seating and family-friendly atmosphere.

“These are guilt-free calories,” Barrios joked.

The dine-to-donate event runs all day Thursday, starting with brunch at 11 a.m. and continuing through lunch, happy hour and dinner. Both Los Barrios on Blanco Road and La Hacienda de Los Barrios will participate.
