San Antonio’s original Burger Boy location set for reopening ‘very soon’ after fire last August

San Antonio’s beloved Burger Boy location on North St. Mary’s Street is set to make a comeback soon after a kitchen fire last year forced its closure.

SAN ANTONIO — The original San Antonio Burger Boy location on the St. Mary’s strip is nearing a return, months after a fire temporarily shut down the longtime local favorite.

In August, San Antonio firefighters responded to a structure fire at the restaurant in the 2300 block of North St. Mary’s Street around 11 p.m., according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

Fire officials said flames began in the kitchen and spread into the attic. Crews launched a quick attack that stopped the fire from extending further and prevented more significant damage. All employees were able to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported. The building sustained moderate damage, officials said at the time.

Now, Burger Boy says reopening plans are in motion.

In a recent Facebook post, the company announced that a re-grand opening date for its original St. Mary’s location will be revealed “very soon,” adding that the reopening is “right around the corner.” The restaurant encouraged customers to stay tuned for details about the official date.

No specific reopening date has been announced at this time.
