Drake and Bad Bunny reigned supreme in Texas when it comes to Spotify streams. But they dominate with San Antonio listeners?
SAN ANTONIO — Some things have always been indicative of the Christmas season’s start.
Colder temperatures. Mariah Carey on the radio. The emergence of lights on gutters, stockings over the fireplace. Snow on the ground (well, maybe not in Texas).
Recent years have brought a new annual sign that the calendar is on its last page: The arrival of Spotify Wrapped, a personalized rundown of listeners’ favorite songs, artists and genres over the course of the year on the popular platform with more than 700 million users.
This year’s Wrapped dropped Wednesday. At the same time, Spotify announced that Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny dethroned Taylor Swift as the top-streamed artist around the world.
The Weeknd, Drake and Billie Eilish rounded out the top five.
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ pop power ballad “Die with A Smile” was the most-streamed song around the world, meanwhile, and Bad Bunny’s charts-topping “DeBI TiRAR MaS FOToS” was the top-streamed album.
As for here in Texas, Drake reigned supreme: He was the top-stramed Spotify artist in the state and in San Antonio, as well, followed by Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift, according to Spotify data. Morgan Wallen came in at No. 4 in Texas, but that’s where things deviate when zeroing in on the Alamo City.
It isn’t much of a surprise that country crooner Morgan Wallen, fresh off a new album in 2025, was among the most-streamed artists in Texas. Nor does it come as a shock that in San Antonio, the No. 4 slot went to Regional Mexican group Fuerzo Regida.
Texans, meanwhile, listened the most to rap, hip-hop, pop, country and Mexican music this year, respectively.
Four of San Antonio’s most-streamed artists last year retained a spot in the top five for 2025, but Peso Pluma was replaced by The Weeknd in the Alamo City. And while no fewer than four of San Antonio’s five most-streamed albums in 2024 were by Spanish-language artists, there was more variety in this year’s crop.
San Antonio’s most-streamed albums of 2025
- “DeBI TiRAR MaS FOToS” by Bad Bunny
- “I’m the Problem” by Morgan Wallen
- “SOS Deluxe: Lana” by SZA
- The “Kpop Demon Hunters” soundtrack by the film’s cast
- “Mi Vida Mi Muerte” by Neton Vega
As for the city’s top-streamed songs, it was a mixture of hits by Spanish-language artists, hits from Pulitzer-winning rappers and Grammy-winning tunes by U.S. stars. There’s just a little overlap with the most-streamed songs around the world for 2025.
