SAN MARCOS, Texas — The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is asking for the community’s help as it faces another wave of overcrowding.
Shelter officials said an influx of lost and found dogs in recent days has filled kennels to capacity, leaving little room to safely house all animals.
Residents with missing pets are urged to reclaim them as soon as possible. Reclaims are the quickest way to free up space and reduce overcrowding, officials said.
The shelter is also seeking adopters and foster volunteers. Short-term fostering can help make a life-saving difference while pets are waiting to be reunited or adopted.
Officials said they are “teetering on the edge of needing another deadline list” and want to do everything possible to avoid that outcome.
