San Marcos LGBTQ+ bar Stonewall Warehouse abruptly closed on New Year’s Day

Stonewall Warehouse in San Marcos employees were informed the local LGBTQ+ bar was closing on New Year’s Day, according to a GoFundMe post.

“On Sunday, New Year’s Day, my staff and I were told the business was sold and we were all being let go. No notice and no warning were given. We are devastated at the closure of Stonewall, but it has left my entire staff with no income right at the beginning of the month when bills and rent are due,” said former Stonewall Warehouse employee Lena Jacobs in the GoFundMe.

Jacobs added in the GoFundMe that she created the $5,000 fundraiser to help the abruptly jobless employees pay their bills. So far, the fundraiser has raised over $4,000 from over 100 donors as of Tuesday, January 3, according to the fundraiser.

“We are a super close group, these kids were like my kids and I would do anything for them. I’m hoping this will help them even a little bit. Thank you to anyone that contributes it means a lot that the community has rallied behind us in this very sad time,” Jacobs concluded in the fundraiser.

Stonewall Warehouse is located at 141 E. Hopkins St., Floor 2, San Marcos, TX 78666. The bar’s Facebook page is no longer available.

MySA reached out to Jacobs for additional comment and to Stonewall Warehouse for more information on the closure and what is next for the business.

“This place is more than just a bar to so many of us,” Jessye Lane Daniels said in the GoFundMe. “It was a safe space where everyone was accepted. A safe space to dance, laugh, sing and love! Stonewall will be missed!”
