SAN MARCOS, Texas — A Hays County jury found a San Marcos man guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child on Oct. 30, officials said.
The Hays County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that Javier Ortega Gonzalez was sentenced to life in prison on Oct. 31.
Prosecutors said evidence showed Gonzalez sexually abused a child over several years, beginning when the child was 5. They also presented evidence that he had been physically abusive to multiple children and adults over time.
Because of the conviction for continuous sexual abuse of a child, Gonzalez will not be eligible for parole.
The case was investigated by the San Marcos Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Miranda Ebersole and Rebecca Lopez.
“It took extraordinary courage for the victim to come forward and testify about the abuse,” Ebersole said in a statement. “We thank the jury for their verdict and for ensuring that this defendant can never sexually abuse a child again.”
