SAN ANTONIO — A baby has been taken to the hospital after officials say the vehicle they were in was shot at while on the road.
The San Antonio Police Department said officers were called to a QuikTrip gas station located in the 4100 block of South Loop 1604 East just before noon on Tuesday.
Initially, SAPD said first responders discovered a “toddler” with an apparent gunshot wound to the arm. Authorities later clarified that the victim, a 1-month-old female, was not shot but fragments from the shooting had injured the child’s right arm and possibly one of her eyes.
The baby was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.
Police said the baby’s mother, the driver of the vehicle, told officers the incident happened when she and the suspect were involved in a road rage disturbance on the roadway. The suspect allegedly drove right next to the victim’s vehicle and fired multiple rounds.
Officials said rounds struck the vehicle but no parties inside were struck. The woman pulled over to the QuikTrip after the gunfire.
The suspect and vehicle fled the scene. Officials said a possible suspect vehicle and a suspect were located nearby but no arrests have been made at this time.
No one else was injured. This is an ongoing investigation.
