San Antonio authorities said a child around 12 years old was in the vehicle believed to have been racing. Police believe his uncle was behind the wheel.
SAN ANTONIO — A 12-year-old child was killed and two others were injured in a major accident on the near-northwest side that possibly involved street racing, SAPD says.
Police responded to Culebra near North Elmendorf around 6:37 p.m. Tuesday, where a KENS 5 crew observed two white sedans with major visible damage and debris littering the street.
Officials at the scene said it’s believed one of the two cars was racing a third vehicle not involved in the crash when the driver veered into oncoming traffic, hitting a car with an adult female driver. That driver was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
Two occupants in the other car – a male driver estimated to be in his early 20s and the child believed to be his nephew – were taken to University Hospital. SAPD confirmed Wednesday that the 12-year-old child died from his injuries.
The suspect is believed to be a 20-year-old man who fled the scene. No arrests have been made yet.
