San Antonio authorities said a child around 12 years was in the vehicle believed to have been racing. Police believe his uncle was behind the wheel.
SAN ANTONIO — Three people, including a young child around 12 years old, were taken to local hospitals after a major accident on the near-northwest side, according to San Antonio authorities.
Police responded to Culebra near North Elmendorf around 6:37 p.m. Tuesday, where a KENS 5 crew observed two white sedans with major visible damage and debris littering the street. Officials at the scene said it’s believed one of the two cars was racing a third vehicle not involved in the crash when the driver veered into oncoming traffic, hitting a car with an adult female driver.
That driver was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
Two occupants in the other car — a male driver estimated to be in his early 20s and the child believed to be his nephew — were taken to University Hospital to be treated.
“It was a bad accident,” SAPD Sgt. Mario Montoya said at the scene, adding it wasn’t believed anyone is in custody at this point.
Montoya said law enforcement also didn’t suspect at this point that drugs or alcohol were involved, nor if charges could be eventually filed.
