
Firefighters responding to a brush fire made a disturbing discovery — a body wrapped in materials and set on fire.
SAN ANTONIO — A brush fire on the east side of San Antonio turned into a homicide investigation after a body was found at the scene.
According to police, firefighters were called around 7:35 a.m. Saturday to the 1500 block of Rigsby Avenue for a small brush fire.
As crews worked to put out the flames, they found what appeared to be a body wrapped in materials and set on fire.
Firefighters immediately notified police, who responded to the scene and began an investigation.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner has identified the man as 84-year-old Manuel Gomez Mendez. It’s still unclear how the body ended up at the location or what the cause and manner of death is.
No suspect information has been released.
The case remains under investigation.
