Authorities discovered a body at Jefferson High School in San Antonio on Friday morning.
SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Medical Examiner said a body found on the campus of Jefferson High School Friday morning is that of a 66-year-old man.
First responders were called to the school around 8 a.m., as some students were still arriving for class.
The body was discovered east of the main building, near the baseball field.
A ruling on cause and manner of death has not been revealed yet, but police said the incident is being investigated as a suicide – though the evidence is preliminary and is subject to change.
Currently, no details have been released about who made the discovery, but school officials said no student was ever in danger and they removed students from the area as soon as the discovery was reported.
One woman who was near the campus at the time said she called the school to learn more about what was going on.
The neighbor said, “We called the school earlier and they said everyone inside the school is safe and good to go but they haven’t even informed staff or anyone as to what’s going on outside.”
Police said it “is an isolated incident and does not involve any member of the staff or students.”
Jefferson High School sent this letter to parents regarding the incident:
“We want to make you aware that there was police activity on our property this morning for an incident unrelated to the school. Our students were safe at all times and there was no threat to any student or staff member as a result of this incident.
We took extra care to ensure students were not affected, and we also provided time for those who may have witnessed the ongoing activity to talk about it, if they wished to do so.
Student safety is a top priority at SAISD schools. We want to keep families informed of situations, and the care we provide to our community, as soon as we are able. We thank you for your support and understanding.”
