SAPD: Fatal crash caused by wrong-way driver suspected of DWI closes highway

Castle Hills Police say the driver tested nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit.

SAN ANTONIO — A fatal crash caused by a wrong-way driver suspected of DWI has Loop 410 West closed on the northwest side of town Thursday morning.  

Police responded to the westbound lanes of Loop 410 between Blanco Road and Vance Jackson Road around 2:15 a.m. for reports of a crash.

Police say the man was driving the wrong way when he hit another vehicle. Officers say the driver who was hit got out of his vehicle and was then hit by a female driver.

Castle Hills Police say the wrong-way driver tested nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Police say he could be facing additional charges as well. The man who was hit was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Police say the woman who hit the victim won’t face any charges unless she is found to be intoxicated. 

The west bound lanes of Loop 410 remain closed between Blanco Road and Vance Jackson Road. Investigators are still looking into this accident.

The identity of the victim was not released.
