SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has identified the officer who shot and killed a man while responding to an assault-in-progress on the city’s west side on Sunday.
Officer Matthew Roach fatally shot a suspect who police say was assaulting his girlfriend when officers arrived to the residence on the 6500 block of Tahoka Boulevard. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Max Dominguez.
Police said as officers attempted to enter the residence, Dominguez reportedly opened the door slightly but wouldn’t open the door further. Officer Roach reportedly pushed the door open and Dominguez fell back into a bed and grabbed a machete.
Police said Dominguez tried to get up with the machete in his hands, prompting the officer to fire his weapon.
Dominguez was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Police said this was not the first time SAPD had responded to the residence. The suspect also had a history of violent offenses including aggravated assault and theft.
Officer Roach has just over a year of service, according to SAPD. He was placed on administrative duty pending an investigation of the shooting.
This was the 7th shooting involving an SAPD officer this year so far and the 4th in the month of March alone.
