SAPD investigating shooting possibly linked to crash in west San Antonio

Officers were first called around noon Sunday to the 9200 block of Ridge Branch for reports of a shooting.

SAN ANTONIO — Police are investigating a shooting and crash on the west side after a disturbance involving an F-250 pickup and another vehicle, according to SAPD.

Officers were first called around noon Sunday to the 9200 block of Ridge Branch for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they were told that a Ford F-250 had sped away from the scene and crashed into two vehicles, police said.

At the original location, officers found a man who told them he was asleep inside his vehicle. He told investigators he woke up after hearing a gunshot but denied firing any weapon, according to police.

About a mile away, officers located an F-250 stopped near a Valero in the 9600 block of Culebra Road. Police found a man with gunshot wounds to his back and a woman. Both were detained for questioning.

Police said the man in the truck was taken to a hospital in good condition. The woman remained at the scene.

Investigators are still piecing together what exactly happened, but police said initial information suggests the people in the F-250 may have pulled up next to the other vehicle and broken its window. At that point, the man who was sleeping in the back seat may have fired a shot in response, though detectives said it is still unclear who fired the weapon.

The man found in the first vehicle is also being detained as detectives work to piece together his story. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

This is a developing situation and KENS 5 will continue to update this article as we learn more.
