Police said SWAT teams assisted with the scene.
SAN ANTONIO — A man was taken into custody after a nearly 6-hour standoff at a southwest-home Tuesday.
The San Antonio police initially responded to the 600 block of Taft Boulevard, near Frio City Road, around 6:15 a.m. for reports of a shooting. Police said SWAT teams assisted with the scene.
Chief William McManus said a man had pistol whipped his significant other, identified as a woman in her 30s, before shooting her in the head and fleeing to a house where several people lived.
Police said the residents of the home all exited the house. The woman was taken to the hospital – at last check she was in critical but stable condition.
McManus said the police used tear gas to force the man to surrender but the man was hunkered down in a crawlspace near the attic. It was later revealed the man had used sweaters to protect himself from the gas.
Police said SWAT was clearing the home room by room and used a dog to locate the man.
The man was unharmed and was promptly arrested, authorities said.
McManus said the man will be facing several charges including domestic violence and strangulation charges.
No other injuries were reported.
This is a developing story.
