SAPD: Man charged with murder after fatal chokehold on child’s mother

When EMS arrived at the scene, the woman had already died, according to police.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man is facing a murder charge after police say he strangled the mother of his child during an argument at an east-side apartment complex.

According to a police report, 24-year-old Marc Damien Balditt was arrested Wednesday night after officers responded to The Park at Sutton Oaks apartments in the 1000 block of Locke Street for a reported assault in progress.

Police say Balditt called 911 himself and told dispatchers he had placed the woman in a headlock to “put her to sleep,” but she was no longer responding.

Investigators said Balditt told officers the two had been talking about their child when the conversation escalated into an argument that turned physical.

According to the report, Balditt then placed the woman in a chokehold and did not let go for at least two minutes.

When EMS arrived at the scene, the woman had already died, according to police.

Authorities said the couple’s child has since been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Balditt is currently being held on a murder charge. His bond was set at $250,000.
