Police said the victim left the gas station before crashing his vehicle at the corner of East Commerce and South Polaris.
SAN ANTONIO — A young man is dead after police say he was shot near an east-side gas station Sunday afternoon.
San Antonio Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress. They found the male victim dead in the 2200 block of East Commerce Street.
Police said it appeared that the victim was driving when he was shot at a gas station and crashed at the corner of East Commerce and South Polaris.
A person who said they witnessed what happened and called 911 did not want to be identified but told KENS 5 he discovered the young man after the crash and said he had been shot in the head.
“I was sitting in my business right here on Commerce Street when I heard what was a faint gunshot sound to me. I just ignored it, and 30 seconds later, I heard a crash,” the witness said.
He said he’s concerned with the violence involving young victims that is happening in communities in all parts of San Antonio.
“Our youth is out of control with their day-to-day living and all the stuff they have going on. Then it filters out into our community and you have the situation that you have right now,” he added.
Family members at the scene told KENS 5 the victim is Jordan Bocanegra, 19. They claim the death of their loved one is the result of an ongoing dispute. They said Jordan had only intended to visit San Antonio for the night before returning home to Hondo.

Family members said they believe they know who the suspect is.
Officials have not confirmed the victim’s identity and there is no word yet from police on any suspects or arrests made in the case.
This is a developing story.
