A suspect wielding a machete robbed a man of his wallet and phone on San Antonio’s west side.
SAN ANTONIO — A man had his wallet and cell phone stolen when he was attacked by a suspect wielding a machete on the west side of San Antonio early Sunday morning, police say.
Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Ruiz Street around 2:15 a.m. for reports of a cutting.
When police arrived at the location, they found a 37-year-old victim with a severe laceration on his face. The victim told police he was standing near the intersection of Ruiz Street and N. Zarzamora when the suspect walked up and demanded his wallet.
The victim told officers that he refused to give the suspect his wallet and that’s when he was struck in the face with the machete. The suspect took the man’s wallet and cell phone, then drove off in an older model Chevrolet Trailblazer before police arrived.
The victim had non life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. No description was provided for the suspect, who is still at large.
This is still an active investigation.
