SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested on Saturday after police say he smashed a jewelry case during a store theft, ran over the store owner while fleeing, and then tried to escape naked before being captured, police say.
The incident began around 4:30 p.m. at a business in the 6800 block of South Zarzamora Street. According to San Antonio police, the 38-year-old suspect broke a glass jewelry case, grabbed items, and ran outside to a black Cadillac he had parked near the store’s exit.
Police say the suspect had to drive over a curb and sidewalk to leave the area. As the 60-year-old store owner tried to stop him, he was struck by the suspect’s vehicle door and run over. The victim was taken to the hospital by EMS. His condition has not yet been released.
Officers issued a description of the suspect and vehicle, and the Cadillac was later found near the highway. Police say an officer spotted a man matching the suspect description fleeing from the abandoned vehicle on foot across the roadway.
With several patrol units in the area and multiple calls reporting a suspicious person, officers ultimately found and arrested the suspect, who police say was completely nude at the time.
The man is facing an aggravated robbery charge, along with a felony warrant and additional charges, police said.
This remains an active investigation.
