SAPD: Off-duty officers injured after speeding driver suspected of DUI crashes into parked vehicles

Police said off-duty officers were assisting with traffic control when a 19-year-old driver traveling at an unsafe speed rear-ended the parked vehicles.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department said a crash early Saturday morning on the north side left several people injured, including off-duty police officers.

Police said the incident occurred around 2:05 a.m. in the 2700 block North Loop 1604 East, where off-duty officers were working with construction crews to direct traffic. The vehicles involved in the traffic control were parked with red and blue emergency lights activated, police said.

According to SAPD, a 19-year-old man driving a Toyota Camry was traveling at an unsafe speed and failed to properly change lanes, causing him to rear end the parked vehicles.

Several passengers and the off-duty officers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators determined the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash, SAPD said. The investigation remains active.
