SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio police officer was arrested after allegedly putting an illegal tracking device on his wife’s vehicle back in March 2025, according to a press release.
Richard Boyle, a 24-year veteran with the San Antonio Police Department, faces charges of Unlawful Installation of Tracking Device – a Class A misdemeanor.
According to an arrest affidavit, Boyle had been monitoring his wife Veronica’s location using the OnStar function in the Cadillac she drove. Veronica and Boyle were separated at this time but Veronica was primarily driving the Cadillac that belonged to Boyle.
Authorities said that Veronica found out Boyle was monitoring her location and promptly returned the Cadillac to Boyle and told him she did not want him to track her location.
The arrest affidavit states, Veronica purchased a new vehicle on March 3, 2025 and a few days later she used the Tile app on her phone to check for tracking devices in her vehicle. She found a location tracker attached to her new vehicle and detectives were then called to a parking lot on the 100 block of Military Plaza to process the vehicle and collect the tracking device.
Veronica made a report to the San Antonio Police Department’s Internal Affairs division. Investigators said they talked with Boyle who admitted to placing the tracker on Veronica’s new vehicle, according to documents.
Authorities said Boyle turned himself into the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. This is the sixth arrest of an SAPD officer this year.
According to SAPD, Boyle was assigned to SAPD’s Off Duty Employment Detail and is currently on administrative duty.
Jail records show Boyle was released on a $3,500 bond.
