SAN ANTONIO — Newly released body camera video shows the intense moments a San Antonio police officer rushed to rescue a wounded colleague during a mass shooting that injured multiple officers last year.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the shooting happened in January 2025 at an apartment complex off Stone Oak Parkway.
Police said officers were responding to a mental health call when a suspect, identified as Brandon Poulos, opened fire on them.
Authorities said seven San Antonio police officers were shot during the incident.
Body camera footage released by police captured the chaotic moments as gunfire erupted.
“I’m hit, I’m hit,” one officer can be heard shouting in the video.
Police said the first responding officer was shot in the leg. As the suspect continued firing, other officers ran toward the gunfire to reach the injured officer.
The video shows Officer Matthew Medina moving in to help.
“I got him, Sarge, I got him,” Medina said in the footage.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, Medina dragged the wounded officer to safety and then rushed him to a hospital.
“Where do I go? He’s shot,” Medina can be heard saying in the video as medical staff prepared to treat the injured officer.
Police said the officer later recovered from his injuries.
On Friday, Medina was honored for his actions during the department’s annual awards ceremony where he received the Meritorious Conduct Award for demonstrating courage, selflessness and dedication to duty.
Officials also recognized five other officers involved in the Stone Oak shooting during the ceremony.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, all seven officers who were shot in the incident have since recovered.
