SAPD officer involved in wreck while responding to separate accident, police say

The officer is expected to be OK.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio police officer responding to a call for an accident found himself in a wreck Wednesday morning on the east side, authorities say.

The unidentified officer was “getting checked out at the hospital” after colliding with an SUV in an intersection near Interstate 35 and New Braunfels, according to a San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) sergeant at the scene. Police still need to review footage to see who was at fault, but the sergeant said “they didn’t see each other” before colliding around 9:12 a.m.

A police unit at the scene had visible front-end damage, while the SUV had visible damage to the driver’s side.

There was one person in the SUV, and she wasn’t seriously hurt. A bicyclist in the initial accident the officer was responding to nearby also suffered non-serious injuries, police say.
