SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio Police officer was shot on the north side of town while responding to a domestic violence call early Sunday morning, SAPD says.
It happened just after 3 a.m. on the 1300 block of Patricia Drive near Blanco Road.
When officers arrived at the apartment, they learned the suspect’s girlfriend had been assaulted inside the apartment. Police entered the apartment, according to Chief McManus, and saw the suspect laying on the bed with a rifle by his side. The suspect began shooting at the officers, who returned fire, then retreated.
“One of our officers was shot at multiple times,” said Chief McManus. “She is currently at the hospital and in surgery.”
“A SWAT team made entry to the apartment and saw that the suspect was deceased,” said Chief McManus. “We don’t know if he took his own life, or whether one of the rounds from the officers took him.”
The victim of the assault and the suspect are both in their 20s.
The three officers involved in the shooting all have under three years on the police force.
This is all preliminary information and is subject to change, according to the chief.
This is a developing story.
