SAPD: Passenger severely injured, driver possibly facing DWI charge after high-speed crash

Police say the vehicle “ran out of road” and crashed into a concrete barrier in front of a business on Schertz and North Weidner Road.

SAN ANTONIO — A passenger is fighting for his life after police say a vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier Friday night.

According to police, a vehicle with two men in their 20s was driving at a high rate of speed on Schertz Road just after 9:30 p.m.

That’s when the vehicle “ran out of road” and drove into a front of a business around the area of Schertz and North Weidner Road, crashing into a concrete barrier in front of the building.

Police say the passenger of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

The driver was also taken to the hospital but will be assessed for the possibility of DWI. If alcohol was involved, the driver faces an intoxicated assault charge. If the passenger dies, that’ll be upgraded to intoxicated manslaughter.

This is a developing situation and KENS 5 will continue to update this article as we learn more.
