According to police, it may have been accidental, happening while two people were playing around while doing something on social media.
SAN ANTONIO — Police are saying a 28-year-old woman is dead from a shooting at a downtown apartment that appears to have been accidental.
It happened at the Encore SoFlo apartments in the 300 block of South Flores just before 4:30 a.m.
Police say the woman was with a guy in his late 20s making a social media video and they had multiple guns in the apartment.
Officers say the pair was playing around, tossing the rifle in the air when the weapon discharged.
The woman was shot in the abdomen, but police believe say it was an accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man is in SAPD custody for questioning.
Neighbors woke up to the police surrounding the building shocked to hear the news.
“We both woke up in the morning and we looked outside and we didn’t even know this was happening,” said Ryan Praggo, neighbor at SoFlo. “It’s all kinda hitting me right now. It’s very surreal. I didn’t think that something like this could happen so close.”
Other neighbors at Encore SoFlo apartments say some of the units are being rented out as Air bnbs.
We reached out to apartment management who didn’t want to comment.
No charges have been announced for the man.
This is still an active investigation.
