Police say when Ramirez finally stopped, he rolled down his window and allegedly pointed a gun at an officer.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has released a video of an officer shooting a suspect during a Nov. 7 traffic stop at the intersection of Padre Drive and Napier Avenue.
Just after midnight, police say officer Oscar Espino saw the 42-year-old suspect Raul Ramirez commit a traffic violation at South Presa and South East Military Drive.
Authorities say Espino recognized Ramirez’s truck as one that had taken off from officers earlier. Espino then turned on his lights and tried to pull Ramirez over, but police say he sped up and tried to get away.
Police then say Ramirez stopped at the intersection of Padre Drive and Napier Avenue and when Espino got out of his patrol car, Ramirez rolled down his window and pointed a gun at the officer.
That’s when police say officer Espino fired several shots at Ramirez, hitting him once
The night of the shooting KENS 5 spoke with Chief William McManus at the scene:
“He struck the individual in the shoulder. The individual does have a police record and he is a documented gang member.”
Officers say they provided life-saving measures to Ramirez before EMS arrived and took him to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.
A gun was found on Ramirez, according to police, and he was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and felon possession of a firearm
Police say the investigation of the shooting is still ongoing and information could change.
