SAN ANTONIO — A home on the inner east side went up in flames late Monday night and San Antonio police say it may have been due to squatters.
Officials said firefighters arrived to the home located on the 400 block of Lamar Street near North Hackberry Street, where they discovered smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.
Neighbors told police they confronted a pair of squatters just hours earlier. One of the squatters was arrested and police say the other took off.
Fire officials said due to the way the home was built, the blaze was a challenge for firefighters to put out.
No one was hurt and the home sustained moderate damage, according to SAFD.
Officials said it will be a while until crews are able to determine what sparked the fire.
