SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio authorities say a man is dead and a woman hospitalized after they were shot by a neighbor while exiting their south-side home Thursday afternoon.
The suspect, an unidentified man in his 20s, was taken into custody when police responded to the 200 block of Lyric Drive, near Interstate 37 and East Southcross. Officials said a relative had taken away his weapon by the time police arrived.
Officers initially responded at about 12:40 p.m. for a disturbance call that later turned into a shooting incident, SAPD Spokesperson Camelia Juarez said. At this point, police believe the two victims – a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s or 30s – were leaving their house as gunfire pierced the fence, hitting them.
It’s unclear at this point where the suspect was relative to the victims when he allegedly shot. Juarez also said detectives were still working to determine a motive and whether the two parties had been arguing.
“At this time detectives are collecting statements, reviewing any surveillance video they might have as well as collecting evidence and statements,” Juarez said shortly after 2 p.m., adding that there haven’t been disturbance calls reported from the address in at least the last year.
It’s also unknown at this time if anyone else was in the home at the time of the shooting nor how many shots were fired.
