The 30-year-old suspect is currently in critical but stable condition.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is in the hospital after driving into Woodlawn Lake and aggressively approaching a park police officer, according to SAPD.

According to police, around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, a 30-year-old man was driving a vehicle through Woodlawn Park until he allegedly drove into a lake.

Officers were dispatched to the scene for a major accident. The first officer to show up was a Park Police officer who is assigned to the area.

As she was checking on the driver, he allegedly got out of the vehicle, armed with a knife, and aggressively approached her with it. She told him to put the knife down multiple times, backing up until she hit the walking track. That’s when she shot two rounds at him after he continuously refused to comply. He was reportedly shot in the torso.

The suspect then stopped and was taken into custody. He is however being treated for his injuries. He is currently in critical but stable condition.

Police say the officer is a nine-year veteran of the Park Police Department.

Police say nobody else was injured.
