SAPD: SWAT raid at northwest-side motel ends with suspect in custody, kidnapping victim hospitalized

A suspect was taken into custody, and a victim was found and transported to a local hospital.

SAN ANTONIO — A Motel 6 on the northwest-side turned into the center of a major law-enforcement operation late Wednesday night after San Antonio police and SWAT units executed a raid tied to a downtown kidnapping and since-discontinued CLEAR Alert.

The raid happened just before 11 p.m. at the motel off Wurzbach Road and I-10. Police have not yet released official details, but a tip to KENS 5 indicated officers were searching for a suspected kidnapper and victim inside one of the rooms.

Video from the scene shows dozens of officers surrounding the motel, SWAT vehicles staged in the parking lot and an ambulance positioned nearby. Snipers were also seen climbing onto the roof of the adjacent Wendy’s as teams prepared to breach the room.

SWAT deployed a flashbang while forcing entry, according to information gathered at the scene.

A suspect, identified as 35-year-old Geoffrey Garcia, was taken into custody, and a victim was found and transported to a local hospital. Authorities have not said what led up to the operation.

Officers were originally called to the 300 block of Labor Street for an assault in progress around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, but upon arrival, both the woman and the suspect were already gone. The victim was identified as a 27-year-old woman.

Police said the woman was forcibly taken to a different location in a White Dodge Ram. Witnesses told police that Garcia and the victim had previously been in a relationship and that the woman was placed in the vehicle before the suspect drove off in an unknown direction.

It’s unclear what charges Garcia will face.
