Police said a 14-year-old was detained Wednesday after allegedly fleeing from officers in a stolen vehicle and crashing on the city’s northwest side.

SAN ANTONIO — A 14-year-old was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle and crashing on the city’s northwest side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said the incident began around 8 a.m. after officers received a report of a stolen vehicle near the 9700 block of Laurel Oaks Street.

An officer later spotted the vehicle being driven near De Zavala Road and Interstate 10 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, SAPD said.

Police said the driver sped off, prompting officers to call for assistance. Authorities later located the vehicle with help from a police helicopter.

Investigators said the driver eventually reached a dead end, drove through some front lawns and struck several mailboxes before crashing into a tree.

The suspect then attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody shortly afterward, police said.

SAPD said the teen could face charges including evading arrest and criminal mischief.

Police said two females were also seen inside the vehicle but exited before officers located the driver. Authorities believe the two females are safe.

The investigation remains ongoing.

This is a developing story.
