SAN ANTONIO — A meetup in east San Antonio ended with a young man being fatally shot and another person hit by a stray bullet while inside their nearby home, police officials say.
No suspects have been identified or arrested after law enforcement responded to the 2000 block of Schley Avenue, south of Interstate 10, at 9:23 p.m. Monday. Authorities say the unidentified victim was 17-years-old.
The homeowner was “minding his own business” when he was struck by a bullet through a window,” a San Antonio police sergeant on the scene said, adding investigators didn’t believe the shooting was random. The homeowner is in stable condition.
“I don’t believe it was targeted necessarily, but the individuals involved I’m sure know each other,” he said.
Authorities recovered more than 10 shell casings in the early stages of their investigation, and said they believe “multiple calibers of weapons” were used in the shooting.
Neighbors who spoke with KENS 5 said they’ve lived in the neighborhood for decades and recalled the moments the gunshots rang out, saying they jumped off the bed and to the floor. They said they couldn’t recall an incident like Monday night’s ever happening on their street.
