Perez and Espinoza are now face multiple charges, including burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
SAN ANTONIO — Two men are now behind bars, accused in a crime spree that police say the suspect vehicle was a stolen white Chevy Camaro, the same stolen car police are investigating as the center of a deadly fatal crash.
Sunday morning, we combed through multiple arrest warrants outlining new details in the investigation.
Here’s what we’ve learned.
According to an arrest affidavit, the Chevy Camaro was stolen from a Converse home on July 14.
We were the first to share video with you that captured the moment the car was stolen right out of the driveway.
The next day police say 21-year-old Eric Perez and 18-year-old Matthew Espinoza were caught on camera outside a restaurant near South Park Mall, driving that same stolen white 2018 Chevy Camaro.
The two broke into a Ford truck in the parking lot, stealing a designer purse, cash, bank cards and IDs, according to arrest paperwork.
Juvenile probation officers were later able to identify both suspects from surveillance video.
Then on July 17, that stolen Camaro was involved in a devastating crash off I-35 and Cassin Road.
Police say the driver slammed into a bus hauling a trailer, sending it into an 18-wheeler. Five people on board the bus died, including the driver.
Witnesses told officers several people bailed out of the Camaro right after the crash. When police searched the car, they found the same stolen bank cards and IDs from the burglary just days earlier.
Perez and Espinoza are now face multiple charges, including burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle. But so far, no charges have been filed in connection to the deadly crash.
Police have not yet confirmed the two suspects in that home surveillance video are Perez and Espinoza.
