SAPD: Victim lured into an ambush then shot in a jealous rage

A jealous boyfriend was arrested, accused of posing as girlfriend in texts before shooting, according to an arrest warrant.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say a north-side shooting last summer was not random — and new details in an arrest warrant describe what investigators believe was a planned setup involving social media messages, a late-night meet-up and a jealous boyfriend.

According to the arrest warrant, the shooting happened Aug. 17 near Baltic Drive and Silver Oaks, not far from West Avenue.

Officers were dispatched to the area for reports of a shooting and later located the victim a few blocks away, the warrant states.

Police said the victim had been shot in the arm and lying in a pool of blood.

In the warrant, the 21-year-old victim told officers he had arranged to meet a girl he had been talking to on Facebook. When he arrived, he noticed what he described as a strange look on her face, according to the document.

The victim said the woman told him she did not have her phone — but he was still receiving text messages from her.

Investigators say an SUV pulled up and Jesus Nunez Hernandez, 20, got out and pointed a gun at the victim, according to the arrest warrant. The victim attempted to drive away, but the suspect fired at least four shots, striking the victim in the arm, the document states.

The victim was able to drive to a nearby food truck to get help before EMS took him to a hospital in stable condition, police said.

Detectives later “figured out the mystery,” the warrant states: investigators believe Nunez Hernandez was the woman’s boyfriend and became upset after learning the victim had been messaging his girlfriend on Facebook.

Police allege Nunez Hernandez took the woman’s phone, began texting the victim himself, and used those messages to arrange the meet-up, according to the arrest warrant.

Nunez Hernandez has been arrested and is facing an aggravated assault charge.
