SAPD: Woman arrested after high-speed crash injures two including 4-year-old child

A woman was arrested for intoxication assault after crashing into another car, leaving two critically injured.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was arrested early Sunday morning after a high-speed crash at an intersection near the downtown area that left two people in critical condition, according to San Antonio police. 

Police were called to a major accident at the intersection of S. San Marcos and S. Laredo Street around 3:30 a.m. 

Police said the suspect, a 34-year-old woman, was driving at a high rate of speed when her vehicle ran through the intersection and struck another car, causing her vehicle to catch fire.

According to SAPD, a 4-year-old child in the suspect’s car was not properly secured and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The other driver, a 40-year-old woman, also suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. 

Authorities said the suspect was under the influence at the time of the crash. She was arrested on charges of intoxication assault and endangering a child.

SAPD said this is an ongoing investigation.
