SAPD: Woman dies in single-car accident after crashing into sand barrels

Police say she crashed into the sand barrels that divide the upper and lower level of the highway, then hit the concrete median.

A woman is dead after she crashed her vehicle into some sand barrels on the highway, then struck the concrete median Saturday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of I-35 southbound west of downtown.

Police say the 55-year-old woman was driving a blue 2016 Lincoln MKC traveling south when she crashed into the sand barrels that divide the upper and lower levels of the highway. Then she struck the end of the concrete median behind the barrels causing major intrusion to the undercarriage and drivers compartment. 

She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bexar County Medical Investigator.

Her identity has not yet been released.
