SAPD: Woman killed after losing control of vehicle, driving off overpass near downtown

Investigators said for unknown reasons, the 27-year-old woman lost control and drove off the overpass onto the highway below. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was killed early Saturday morning after she lost control of her vehicle and drove off an overpass near downtown, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The crash was reported at 1:18 a.m. near the 100 block of IH-35 N southbound.

Police said the 27-year-old woman was driving a Honda going westbound on Elmira Street and approaching North Main Avenue when, for unknown reasons, she drifted left, drove over a curb and continued forward.

According to investigators, the vehicle left the roadway and fell onto the lower level of the southbound lanes of I-35.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
