SAPD: Would-be robber shot to death after pistol-whipping armed barber shop employee in San Antonio

Little did the suspect know, the employee he pistol-whipped was also armed.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department says a man who was attempting to rob a north-side barbershop is dead after pistol-whipping an employee who also turned out to be armed.

Around 7:30 p.m., SAPD responded to a shopping center on the 2000 block of Basse Road for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, police say, they found a man with several gunshot wounds to the torso. The wounded man was identified as the suspect and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect had entered the barbershop with a gun, demanding wallets and purses. The suspect then pistol-whipped a male employee, knocking him to the ground and leaving him with a laceration to his head.

Little did the suspect know, police say, the employee he assaulted was also armed.

When the suspect pulled out zip ties and began threatening a female employee, the injured employee pulled out his gun and began firing shots in the direction of the suspect, according to officials.

The suspect was reportedly struck several times in the torso area.

Police are look through surveillance footage to see exactly what happened, but as of now it doesn’t appear the employee will face any charges for deadly force.
