SAPD: Wrong-way driver crashes into another driver on west side

Police say that both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A wrong-way driver killed both himself and another driver after crashing his car into them on the west side of San Antonio early Sunday morning.

Police responded to Highway 90 at Southwest Loop 410 around 5 a.m. for reports of a wrong-way driver, followed by a second call for a major crash.

When officers arrived at the location, they found a black pickup truck had crashed into a gray SUV. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither driver has been identified, but police say one man was in his early 30s and the other in his early 40s.

Witnesses told officers the driver of the black pickup truck was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 90 when he crashed into the gray SUV.

The highway remained closed for several hours as vehicles were towed away and the roadway was cleared.

Police did not say whether alcohol was a factor in this accident.

They said the crash is an ongoing investigation.
