The retired K-9 served the county for seven years with his handler.
SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s office announced the passing of retired K-9 Indy on Monday.
Indy worked in patrol and narcotics odor detection for seven years with his retired handler, according to a Facebook post. The sheriff’s office highlighted Indy’s numerous achievements during his 1,579 calls including nearly 600 narcotics sniffs and apprehending 27 people.
“We fondly remember him and his numerous contributions to our agency and community,” the post read.
He was also deployed 249 times to help deputies, 31 times to assist other agencies and did 28 K-9 demonstrations. He was hailed as a “brave hero” by the sheriff’s office.
Indy was 10 years old and died on July 25.
