SAWS crews continue to repair Broadway water main break

A busted 24-inch pipe led to restricted traffic flow and an impact on local businesses just north of downtown.

SAN ANTONIO — A restaurant located just north of downtown missed out on early Labor Day business as a water main break continue to impact the area of Broadway and Post.

A spokesperson for San Antonio Water System (SAWS) said service had been restored but added the repairs wouldn’t be completely done until Tuesday morning at the latest.

SAWS initially shared news about the break of a 24-inch pipe at 8:21 p.m. Sunday, saying “water pressure should be restored soon.” Crews were will at the scene early Monday afternoon, where puddle-splashing traffic was down to one lane both ways and SAWS workers dug into the ground to repair the pipe.

Just across the street is the new Postino location, which had its lights off and parking lot mostly empty Monday. A sign on the door read the restaurant would be closed Monday morning due to the main break, and an employee with the restaurant said they planned to reopen at 4 p.m.

“We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience,” the sign read. “Thank you for bearing with us.”

Just down the street, a representative with The Beverly Apartments said its tenants weren’t impacted by the main break.
