SAWS: E. coli bacteria found in water sample before distribution to San Antonio

The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) says the bacteria was found in a well on the west side and it will remain offline to be inspected and disinfected.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) announced that E. coli bacteria was found in a raw water sampling of a former BexarMet well near Bear Creek Street on the west side.

SAWS says the sampling was part of a routine testing process to ensure water safety and that no boil water notice will be issued.

The well will reportedly remain offline to be inspected and disinfected.

“Raw, or untreated water, is water from a well before disinfection, and before entering the system providing water to customers. All raw or untreated water is disinfected before entering the distribution system as finished water for customers,” said SAWS.

So far in the month of May, SAWS said they have collected around 330 finished water samples and none have indicated the presence of E. coli.
