Schertz Animal Services seeks public’s help with donations for rescued pets

All donations can be dropped off at the Schertz Animal Shelter.

SAN ANTONIO — Donations are needed after dozens of animals were rescued from an abandoned home in Schertz Sunday, officials say.

The Schertz Police Department was called to the 10000 block of Hillbrook Drive for reports of abandoned animals in need of care.

Upon arrival, officers found a home that appeared to be abandoned with numerous cats and dogs living in “distressing conditions.” Some of the animals required immediate medical attention, according to a Facebook post by Schertz PD.

Police say the animals were “deprived of basic necessities.”

The Schertz Animal Control Division was called to the home where they took custody of the animals, providing them with treatment, care and shelter.

According to the Facebook post, 64 cats and dogs were rescued, with the majority being cats. The sudden influx of animals put a strain on supplies at the Animal Services facility, so they are asking for the public’s help.

The are in need of the following supplies:

  • Dry cat food
  • Wet cat food
  • Cat food dishes
  • Flea and Tick medication
